Curtis spent 20 years in the military, taking on various leadership roles and working across a wide range of operational platforms. Over the course of his service, he received numerous campaign and service medals, along with 12 personal achievement medals. After retiring, he transitioned into leadership positions working 20 years in defense, the private sector, and academia. The oversaw multiple federal and defense grants, helping minority, women, and veteran owned businesses, of all sizes that drove billions of dollars in economic growth.
For the past 33 years, Curtis and his wife of 35 years, Juliet Esteban Mohler, have served in five different churches, taking on all kinds of ministry roles-from leading worship and caring for church facilities to working with kids, teens, leading home groups and adult Sunday school classes, creating curricula, organizing systems, and welcoming and supporting foreign missionaries. Curtis has also trained men for the ministry, mentoring them, guiding them through ordination, and sharing his gift of preaching in various churches.
Curtis holds a Bachelor of Arts in Occupational Education and a Master of Arts in Organizational Management from Wayland Baptist University (WBU). He is a licensed minister, and ordained Deacon and Pastor, as well as a member of the San Antonio Baptist Association (SABA), and (Pastor Strong).
Curtis now serves as senior pastor at Calvary Baptist Church, leading the staff, congregation, programs, and ministries with the mission of “Exalting the Savior, Equipping the Saints, and Evangelizing the Sinner.” The vision is for every member to “take Jesus with them,” living out the Great Commission by sharing their faith, being a house of prayer, and guiding new believers in God’s Word, Jeremiah 3:15, Acts 20:28, Ephesians 4:11-13.
Deacon Chairman James Heinrich is a spiritual leader serving under the Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church as co-laborers togther, overseeing the deacon ministry by planning, leading, and conducting meetings, as well as providing training and resources to support their service to the Body of Christ. As part of the church leadership team, he helps explain the role of the deacons, shares updates to further the church’s mission, and reports their work to the congregation. He also offers advice, counsel, and support to the pastor on matters related to church operations, personnel, and other spiritual concerns.
Most importantly, he assists the Pastor in ensuring the service, upkeep, and needs of the Body of Christ are met through the Deacon Body, allowing the Pastor to focus on preaching, teaching, and equipping the saints for ministry and the work of God, as reflected in Acts 6:1-7, Ephesians 4:11-13, Hebrews 13:17.
Marty Heinrich serves as the Church Administrative Assistant, directly supporting the Pastor and the Body of Christ. In this key role at Calvary Baptist, Marty is often the first point of contact for visitors and members. Responsibilities include managing correspondence, maintaining church records, scheduling appointments, preparing bulletins, and assisting with financial tasks, all while ensuring clear and consistent communication between staff, church events, and service opportunities, Hebrews 6:10.
Bob McMahan has served as a minister of music and song leader for many years in the Lord. He faithfully leads the congregation of Calvary Baptist Church in singing traditional hymns that share the Gospel message and “exalt the Savior” through praise and worship. Psalms 100:1-4.
Danny Smith is a local businessman who uses his skill and knowledge to operate the audio and video equipment used in the worship services. As Church Media Director, he is responsible for overseeing the church’s media operations, ensuring that both in-person and online communication efforts align with the church’s mission and values. This role blends technical expertise, creative vision, and spiritual leadership to enhance outreach, worship experience, and community engagement, Hebrews 6:10.
Teressa Smith uses her God-given talents to serve as the pianist at Calvary Baptist. When she’s not playing at church, she keeps busy running two businesses, managing her garden center, The Front Yard, and working part-time at Van Houten Medical Company, Psalms 150:3-5.
